On Friday 24th March, UK Greetings employee Abu Adam challenged himself to raise money for Comic Relief – Red Nose Day.
Comic Relief is a UK charity that aims to create a just world, free from poverty – where everyone is safe, healthy, educated and empowered. This year Comic Relief asked Red Nose Day fundraisers to “challenge yourself silly – by getting sponsored to taking on a mildly inconvenient challenge to downright daft dare.”
And that’s exactly what Abu did; he challenged himself to run and walk non-stop between the three UK Greetings sites in Dewsbury from 5am to 5pm. Donations could be made via Abu’s JustGiving page and he used the power of selfies to raise money “I thought I’d get others involved so that’s where the selfie idea came from – for every selfie taken with me on the day a £1 donation was received.” Lasting 12 hours and covering 50 miles, Abu smashed his marathon challenge raising £2079 for Comic Relief!
UKG were 100% behind Abu and made a significant donation to his fundraising pot. Talking about the day Abu said, “Cakes, sweets and even a flask of coffee colleagues kindly handed out at sites really helped me stay motivated and cross the finish line. A BIG Thank you to everyone who donated and supported me.”
Abu is no stranger to fundraising, back in March 2013 he organised a Sport Relief sports day and then in March 2016 he did his first ever full marathon for the same cause. When asked about his fundraising efforts Abu said “Knowing the difference this money makes and how it transforms so many lives simply donating just wasn’t enough, so I decided to do more to help.”
We take our hats off to you Abu and just want to say a huge WELL DONE and CONGRATULATIONS for your fundraising efforts – you smashed it!
