The summer holidays are over, autumn leaves will be soon falling, and the kids are starting back at school! For some this might mean a brand-new adventure, an important year of exams or even a new school…
So, what better way to acknowledge this than by sending a card!
But what to write? How much to write? Fear not as our card writers share their top 5 tips for what to write in a back-to-school card!
1) Casual, simple, short messages are always a good start
Not sure what to write? Don’t know them that well? Keep it simple and fun!
- Good luck at your new school!
- Have fun!
- Hope you make lots of friends!
2) Add some encouragement
Starting a new school can be quite daunting, so if you know the recipient is nervous, alleviate some of those nerves with some nice easy encouragement or even a compliment!
- You’ll be amazing!
- Can’t wait to hear all about it!
- Don’t worry, you’re going to have lots of fun!
- It’s your first day at school and you’re going to be AMAAZING!
3) Don’t be afraid to write a bit more
You don’t have to write a poem or anything but acknowledging their achievements or hard work is never a bad thing! Perhaps they’ve struggled with school in the past, or maybe this is the college they dreamed of going to – don’t be afraid to acknowledge these things!
- Can’t believe how much you’ve accomplished over these past few years – well done!
- I know how excited you’ve been to start this school – enjoy every minute of your first day!
- So proud of all the hard work you’ve put in to get here.
4) Make it fun
If in doubt, try to make ‘em laugh!
- Good luck! Try not to get into trouble on your first day!
- Too cool for school? Not you unfortunately!
- We’ll be waiting at the front gate to embarrass you and hear all about it.
5) Don’t overthink it
Remember, no matter what you decide to write, just giving them a card already shows you care. So write whatever feels natural!
