Birthdays – they’re kind of an annual thing. Unless of course you count friends, family, neighbours or even work colleagues… then they can become more of a monthly thing!
And with so many people to celebrate, how do you work out what to write beyond simply ‘Happy Birthday’? (Nothing wrong with that of course, it’s a classic!) How much is too much? Or too little?
Don’t worry, our card writers are back to share some more tips on what to write in a birthday card to up your writing game!
1) Keep it simple
Sounds obvious, but you’re wishing them a happy birthday. So do that! You can still make it fun, but don’t overthink it. This is perfect for those people you’re maybe not super close with, such as a boss at work or an uncle you don’t see often.
· Hope your birthday’s amazing!
· Whatever you get up to, have a great time!
· Wishing you a day full of questionable choices!
· Haaaaapppy birthday toooo yoooou!
2) Mix in a compliment
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t enjoy receiving compliments? It’s entirely up to you and how well you know the recipient, but here are a handful to get you started!
· Have a birthday that’s almost as nice as you are!
· Hope your birthday’s just like you – amazing!
· You’re how old?? What’s your secret?!
· You’re X today and still as fabulous as ever.
· Time to celebrate the birthday legend!
· If anyone deserves a lovely birthday, it’s you.
3) Don’t be afraid to write a bit more
Writing a card for someone special can feel overwhelming, but birthdays allow for heartfelt messages without hesitation. So don’t feel like you can’t tell them how much you appreciate or love them.
· Your birthday is the perfect chance to say how lucky I feel to know you!
· Today is the best day ever – you were born!
· On your birthday, and all the days in between, I love you so much!
· Thank you so much for being in my life.
4) Make ‘em LOL
Who doesn’t love a good laugh? It doesn’t matter if it’s a silly joke or one that’s personal to your relationship, it’ll immediately make the card feel personal without even trying. Perfect for mates or siblings.
· Wave goodbye to your youth!
· At least it’s not as bad as that weekend in Bournemouth…
· Have a very okay day
· I hope you have a fantastic birthday. Even if you are annoying.
5) Don’t worry
When all’s said and done, it doesn’t truly matter what you decide to write. Because just choosing to give them a card on their birthday already shows you’ve thought of them.
