It’s Christmaaaaas!

Which means decorations, German markets, last minute shopping for Auntie Pauline and watching all your favourite festive films.

It also means sending Christmas cards to friends and loved ones.

But what to write? How much to write? Read on as our card writers share their top 5 tips for what to write in your Christmas cards!

1)  If in doubt – keep it short and simple!

If you’re not sure what to write or you don’t know the person that well, why not go for something straightforward and festive?

  • Have a very merry Christmas!
  • Wishing you all lots of festive fun!
  • However you spend your Christmas, hope you enjoy it!

2) Ho Ho Ho!

Make it light-hearted! Christmas is a holly jolly time of year so add a bit of that to your messages – whether it’s a silly joke or a funny observation about the season!

  • Ho ho hope you have a great Christmas!
  • All I want for Christmas is you… oh, and a PlayStation 5!
  • We’re DEFINITEY on the naughty list!

3) Remind them how much they mean…

Christmas is a time to look back over the year and appreciate the things we have and people in our lives. Which makes it perfect for reminding friends and loved ones how much they mean. It doesn’t need to be a long poem or anything, just a nice compliment or thank-you will do. So tell them!

  • I hope you know how much you’re appreciated!
  • I know I should probably say it more, but I love you.
  • You’re the best friend anyone could ever have!
  • Thanks for everything, Mum!
  • At Christmas and always, I love you!

4) Who are you sending it to?

Sounds obvious but think about who the card is for! What would make your grandma smile? What does your brother like to do at Christmas? Is it for the neighbour you only chat to when you put the bins out? These are all worth considering as they can really help you decide what to write!

5) Don’t worry too much

No matter what you go with, just remember that sending someone a card already shows you’re thinking about them, and you care. You’re also spreading the Christmas cheer and that’s never a bad thing!
